Egg Stamps

Egg Stamps

All A class eggs in the EU that are being sold at retail level must be marked with a code identifying the method of production, country of origin and the establishment.

Each establishment will need a registration number which will be stamped on the egg along with a number for the farming method and member state.

The first number stands for the farming method, this could be:-
0 – Organic
1 – Free Range
2 – Barn
3 – Cage

The second part of the code is the country of origin, in the example we have used UK standing for the United Kingdom.

The third part of the code is the five digit registration number which each establishment will have to apply for there own number.

  1. Will the egg not crack when using the stamp? How does this work?

  2. The egg will not crack as the stamp is made out of special rubber on a spungy material so the stamp bends around the egg.
